When do I seek help?
If you have symptoms such as: difficulty sleeping, lack of concentration, feeling out of control, nervousness or moodiness that are interfering with your quality of life, it is time to seek help. Isolating yourself from friends and family, increased arguments and conflicts are also signs that help is needed. It is important to seek help before the problems worsen.
How long will therapy take?
There is no set number of sessions recommended for people entering therapy. Some people need more time to work through deep issues which have been present for years. Other times, a solution-focused approach can help individuals through difficult life transitions. It is important to know that change does not happen over night. It takes active participation and a willingness to make changes.
What are MFT's?
Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) hold a masters degree with an emphasis in counseling and psychotherapy. MFTs are relationship experts who are trained to treat individuals, couples, families, and groups. MFTs can work with people in crisis as well as those who want to improve their quality of life and relationships.
What do I do first?
If you plan to use your insurance, call them first to find out what they will cover. Then, contact therapists who work with the type of issues you need help with. Ask for an initial phone consulation to find out if this person is right for you. Look for someone who is supportive, easy to talk to, warm, and caring. Ask questions and let the therapist know what you need. It is important to know that everyone seeking therapy feels afraid.
